Needs some work Nov 04, 2010
By Jason The bike itself is durable and strong. There is little resistance in the peddles so it's almost impossible to peddle it very fast. Runs on 4-D size batteries when it really should be plugged into the wall.
The learning game that comes in the box is copyright 2006 so it looks like someone just repackaged some old programming. It's pretty low performance, low rez graphics, freezes up, and is a bit difficult to navigate.
I'm tempted to purchase some of the other games for it to see if they are any better but I'm not sure if I want to put any more money into it.
I'm a little disappointed in Fisher-Price, I expect better from them.

Much better than TV Dec 30, 2010
By OldDad Overall, this toy is great. My son is 3years 8 months, and after I get the TV set up, he can turn on the toy, change cartridges, and navigate the menus by himself. It's a better babysitter than passive TV, he gets some exercise, and maybe he learns a little something -- at least, how to play with this kind of toy independently.
On the negative side, as others have said, the graphics are unnecessarily low-resolution and it does occasionally (but not often) lock up. My son knows how to restart the system, though. He's ready for Windows! The other down-side is probably the battery life, but clever Santa replaced the batteries with a 110 volt ac to 6 volt dc transformer before its first use, and it works perfectly. The other little problem is that the game cartridge is easily knocked out during vigorous use, but it's also easily replaced by the user.
I think the lower-priced unit is definitely a good value. I doubt that the more expensive versions are so much better to justify their higher cost.

Almost there but not quite... Dec 28, 2010
By Mommyschwee
"Cool Mom"
The Fisher Price Smart Cycle definitely has some gliches to be worked out. The first negative would be the fact that it requires four "D" batteries and they are sapped quick! This whole unit would run more efficiently if it were a PLUG-IN(to an outlet)SYSTEM! In the three days we've had it it has frozen up on my son about a dozen times...to the extent that we had to turn the unit off then on again (my son has gotten upset because he loses his place). The pros would be it keeps him active during the cold weather days and he's learning while playing. It's attractive and fun and keeps his attention where flash cards couldn't!

Disappointed in Fisher Price Jan 15, 2011
By Dayna I bought two of these smart cycles for my grandsons for Christmas. The advertising for the product indicated "players can race against each other", which we believed meant they could play together at the same with them. Unfortunately, the advertising was MISLEADING, meaning they could take TURNS playing against each other. Since these were bought well before Christmas, I could not return one without basically getting nothing in return monetarily. Also, the games frequently freeze up while they are playing, which frustrates my grandsons. We have tried it on both bikes, and it does the same thing. Poor design quality as I would have expected much more from Fisher Price.

never worked properly Mar 29, 2011
By JuliaG I bought this for my 4 year old nephew for Christmas. He loves to sit on it to play, but when it comes time to petal to the next place, it won't work. He will petal as fast as he can and it doesn't show up on the screen that he's doing anything. Even his 10 year old athletic brother tried to no avail. I thought it might be the game and got him another one, with the same result. I don't know if this is common or if we just got the one that didn't work.
Update 8/19/11: The gaming part of the smartcycle works perfectly. The pedaling part on our bike is not connected to the game somehow. To get to higher levels in a game the player must cycle there, and on the screen the game says "pedal faster!" no matter how fast the player is going already. Yes, it is plugged into the TV. Yes, the batteries are fine. Yes, the game is working. I think there are some good troubleshooting tips available to help with the pedal connection, but if I had been there to see how the pedals weren't working, I would have sent it back to Amazon and asked for a replacement. Since it was a Christmas gift, I ordered it early and we don't live close, I didn't know until it was too late to return it. Provided it works, it is a good product. It keeps my nephew contained and exercising at the same time, which is rare. He likes having his own games, since he's not old enough to be trusted with the wii. The bike doesn't take up that much space and can be put away easily and hooked up easily too. If the pedals had worked, I would have given it 5 stars.
