A bit too creepy... Jan 31, 2010

First off... we LOOOVE the Tag Pen and the other books we've purchased. My son is 4.5 and is already devouring these books in a feverish pace. We got this Spidey one thinking it would be much like the others we've read (Pirates, Diego, Cars, etc.). It's not. First off, it's a comic book... whole-heartedly. It has comic art and comic humor, and comic edgy-ness. That being said, it was a bit too much for my guy. The premise of the story involves a scientist who's experiment goes haywire and turns him into a huge, wild beast-like lizard. The lizard-man drawing is pretty spooky and he's shown acting crazed on most pages. And, the other part of the plot is that the scientist's son is desperately trying to help Spiderman help his father reverse the botched experiment. Little boy crying about his father being in trouble... also, not something my son felt so good about.
We didn't get much further than trying to read the story once through, so I can't comment on the educational value of this one. The other books were all so mind-blowingly great! Fun, wholesome, and amazingly educational. I'm am really sad that this one didn't work out. Maybe next year it'll be less scary.
Sadly, you can't preview the books before you purchase them... so, I hope this description helps. But, I'm thinking this Spiderman book is probably also on-par with the Star Wars one, and the Ben 10 one. Bummers...

5 year old boy loves it! Dec 15, 2009

My 5 year old is a big Spiderman fan and loves this book. He enjoys using his Tag reader to "read" it by himself. He is thrilled to hear Spiderman's voice and all of the sound effects. Both of my sons (the other is 3) have always loved books but this is just a new and different way for them to spend time "reading". It's not a board book so the pages are thin and could rip if you have a baby in the house who is prone to ripping up books. A great buy.

hours of enjoyment May 17, 2011
By Cindi I bought my son (age 4)a LeapFrog® Tag Reading System (16 MB) for Christmas - a few days later we bought my second son (age 6) one as well and this book for him. Each child in your house should have a tag reader - and any child into super heros should have this in their book collection.

Great Tag book, just note it's a comic book Jan 27, 2011
By M. Shahar My daughter (4.5 years)really likes spiderman, so I bought this Tag book for her. Honestly, I didn't realize that it was a comic book meaning the naration is in "bubbles", and the pen doesn't read word by word, like the other Tag books we have, but rather reads each "bubble". she still likes it.

My 6yr old loves this book! Nov 13, 2010

This book is set up like a comic book, the kids love the narrator in the book (I'm guessing that's why a reviewer was freaked out) but it's like old time radio talk narrator (pretty cool if you ask me) What boy don't like spider man. Really not an easy read for the lil kids but they just love it.. I wouldn't necessarily call this an educational as in to start learning from book. But for Spiderman in the tag book for a young boy, pretty awesome!
