| | Description | The Fisher-Price Power Wheels Smart Fortwo Coupe is a durable toy that's a blast to drive. This bright red battery-powered two-seater features Smart Car details, forward and reverse movement, two speeds, and power brakes. View larger. | A Kids' Smart Car with Realistic Detailing This kid's Power Wheels Smart Car by Fisher-Price is designed with an eye toward realism. Constructed from sturdy plastic, the red car body, black dash, and gray seats will have kids feeling as if they're driving a grown-up's Smart Car. This sophisticated toy comes with over two dozen decals that leave no detail unturned. Kids will love the head and taillights, sporty black stripes, grilles, Smart Car logo, and license plate. This car has a generous turning range and can drive forward or in reverse. The two gears--low and high--have speeds of two and a half to five miles per hour. The shifter allows kids to adjust their speed. Beginners are recommended to use the low speed, while advanced drivers can graduate to high speed. A high-speed lock-out is available so beginners won't accidently slip into the higher gear. Cruise in Safety and Comfort During testing, we found the Power Wheels Smart Car to be easy to assemble. After the 12-volt battery charges for 18 hours, you'll be able to assemble the car with nothing more than the accompanying screws and a Phillips-head screwdriver. The additional pieces, such as the seat, dash, and steering column, fit together well. Considering its sturdy plastic material, this toy should hold up to everyday wear and bumps in the road. This toy car's turning range and adjustability are as impressive as its easy assembly. The shifter allows kids to reverse and adjust their speed, so they can slow down around tighter corners or speed up if they've got a straight path ahead of them. Unlike other toy cars, the Power Wheels Smart Car allows both a driver and a passenger to take a spin. This toy is recommended for outdoor use only and can handle a load of up to 130 pounds. High Speed Lock-out for Beginners If your child is new to driving toy vehicles, you can keep the car relegated to the low speed (two and a half miles per hour) until your child is more comfortable operating the Smart Car. The shifter has a lock-out screw that prevents it from being shifted to the higher gear. What's in the Box Vehicle, nine parts for assembly, 12-volt orange battery, 12-volt charger, 16 screws, decal sheet, and instructions.

Love this little car! Oct 23, 2010
By A. Dimova I always wanted one when I was a kid, so naturally when looking for the perfect present for my kids, I started looking for a car. We found a jeep version by the dumpster and easily fixed it, only problem was it was a one seater. Seeing that the kids enjoyed it a lot, we bought the two seater smart with long lasting battery. I love that it comes without decals. I hate stickers on stuff! We put just the headlight stickers and it looks very nice and clean. The red is a great color, very happy and unisex. My kids, age 2 and 4, fit nicely in the car and though the doors don't open, it's easy to climb in and out. The two speed and reverse function nicely and we speedwalk around the park after the kids to have a pleasant evening out without feeling like we're dragging anyone along. Downside I'd say is lack of trunk (kids love hauling stuff) and plastic tires. Would it kill them to put rubber tires on these things? It's like the cheap big-wheel trikes that have slippery plastic wheels that skid all over the place. We're looking for some real mini tired we can retro-fit. Also, I'm surprised by how well my 2 year old and 4 year old handle this car. Hairpin turns, backing out of tight spots...I couldn't drive that well when I was 18. $199 isn't a bad price either. I'm so glad we got this awesome little car. viva amazon!

Awesome but size prob Feb 11, 2011
By Katty Lee I bought this for my 4 yr old son. He loves it but he is almost too tall for it his knees press the dashboard, when we thought about giving it to my friends daughter who is smaller we realized she didn't weigh enough to keep from spinning the tires. so apparantly u have to have a short but heavy child to be able to completely enjoy this toy.

Outdoor fun for the kids Apr 08, 2011

As a child I always wanted a powered vehicle, but my parents couldn't afford one as these 'toys' were a lot more expensive back when I was a kid. I kept my eye on Amazon for a couple of months leading up until Xmas and one very late night, or early morning (however you want to consider it) I happened to catch this one on sale. A deal I couldn't pass up...as usual, free super saver shipping and quick delivery, as are most of the items I have purchased through Amazon.
Assembly of the Smart Car was pretty easy. Stickers are a little challenging if you want them on just right. Keep in mind that this Smart Car is the most basic of the Power Wheels. If you want bells and whistles, like a radio or anything else, this not the car for you.
Since this was purchased in time for Xmas, there was no opportunity to take it out for a spin as it was too cold and wet, but one crisp sunny February day, we decided to take it out to a local park. This is not meant to be an offroad vehicle, so try to keep them on the pavement, otherwise you'll be spending most of your time being the 'tow truck' for your kids. The slow mode was...slow. Even though my kids had never driven one of these before, they found it boring, but once I took out the safety screw and set it to high speed, that's when the fun began. If you need to follow your kids around, like I did, to keep up with the car, you will need to walk pretty fast. We were at the park for over an hour and the battery showed no signs of running low, so I expect the battery will last for around the 2 hours or so that it is rated for.
The only problem with having one of these cars is that it attracts a lot of attention from other kids who would love to have one of their own to play with.
We haven't taken the car out again since that first run, only because I have been too lazy to pack it up in the van to take to the park, but so far so good. I probably had more of a kick out of the car than my kids did!

Very disapointed in the quality of this car! Feb 20, 2011
By Mrs. Russell I bought my 3 year old son this car and it was great fun for awhile. he quickly learned to drive it becuase it is so easy to handle. It was also super easy to assemble! Now here comes my reasoning for why I don't like it. The cheap plastic parts do not stand up well to rough and tumble children! I reccently realized that the little piece of plastic that is supposed to hold the metal rod that attaches the steering wheel is broken. It still steers, but you can pull the sterring wheel right off the car now. I had a similar problem with a four wheeler we bought for him a while back. Little tiny thin peices of plastic can not be excpected to hold metal parts onto a car!
Then today I discover that the back wheels are broken. We have had this car for less than 2 months, but the hollow plastic wheels already have big holes in them and will have to be replaced! Also, their customer service is a joke. It is hard to get a real person on the phone and there is no where on the site where you can just e-mail them. It is really frustrating!
So to summarize-- this car is fun and easy to assemble, but like most toys I have found from this company are built very cheap and because of this will require a lot of up keep that you will have to likely figure out on your own, because the company is not helpful!

Fun Times on Level Ground Jul 17, 2011
By NatomaMommy

We bought this for my 5-year-old's birthday. He is 46 lbs. and 45 inches. He is probably a BIT too tall based on how his knees are at (but not quite touching) the steering wheel. But not too tall to ride by any means. I guess if a 7-year-old rode he could if he were the only rider and his knees stuck out to the sides of the steering wheel.
My mom opened the box and freaked out about assembly. Nothing but screws. But my husband had it together in 30 minutes. I doubt it was EASY as everyone claims, but it's doable. Don't forget to charge the battery before your kid sees the toy!
There are no obvious durability problems but it's clear that this is not a toy that can take a beating. Be very careful. Use only on level ground and not on large bumps or curbs. Don't use on grass.
My 3.5-year-old fits perfectly and can steer well, but not as well as the 5-year-old. My 2-year-old can be a passenger only. And the baby, of course, will have his fun later if this toy lasts. We have only used low speed and for now, for us, that's as fast as we want to go.
